Cindy Hahn is a 40-year-old California woman who has now filed a lawsuit against the city of Carlsbad as well as a Carlsbad police officer.
She’s filed the federal lawsuit because back in 2013 when she was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt, her children were made to watch helplessly in the car while the officer arrested and repeatedly punched her in the face. For not wearing a seatbelt while driving. Here’s the full story, so if you’re not prepared to be enraged, you may want to stop now because it gets worse.
On July 31st of 2013, Hahn had left a birthday party with her two children, ages 7 and 11, when they came upon a vehicle with an alarm going off. There were multiple officers surrounding the vehicle, but none were trying to shut the blaring alarm off. Hahn is actually the daughter of a police officer, and as such was wondering why they weren’t even attempting to contact the owner. Officer Kenyatte Valentine responded that she should mind her “own f*cking business.”
Offended at the comment, Hahn then called the police offices non-emergency line to lodge an official complaint against the officer. After believing the matter was done with, she left for her car and began to drive off, and that’s when Officer Valentine appeared in her rearview mirror with his lights on, pulling her over. She did the right thing and pulled off to the side, where Valentine and another officer got her out of her car and pinned her to the ground. That’s when her nightmarish assault began. Valentine repeatedly punched her in the face, and any passerby that attempted to intervene was removed from the scene by other arriving officers.
Luckily, the entire thing was caught on video by a stranger in the distance. After the assault, she was charged with assault and battery against an officer as well as resisting arrest and was then sent to the hospital. In her 68 point complaint, it’s stated:
“Ms. Hahn was transported to the emergency room where she was diagnosed with head and brain contusions and subsequently diagnosed with a concussion based on the Defendant Police Officers violence. Ms. Hahn suffers permanent memory loss and brain trauma as well as other physical and emotional injuries from the beating.”
Luckily, that random stranger had the good sense to load the video to social media, where it took off like wildfire. The Carlsbad Police have since released a statement, stating that they believe the case will be adhjucated. They’ve also stayed they will not be discussing the facts with anyone but the courtroom. Can we please just have one day without hearing about one dick officer or another? Wouldn’t that be nice?
