Using undercover workers, BBC captured footage from inside Chinese factories that make Apple products, revealing workers so tired they are falling asleep on the job.
Apple promised to protect its factory workers after 14 of them committed suicide in 2010.
But one of the undercover employees told the BBC that he or she worked 18 days straight, and overtime is built-in to their shifts, so many of them regularly work more than 50 hours a week.
Factory workers are asked what shifts they would prefer and if they want to work standing up.
But as one would imagine, refusing to be flexible doesn’t look good to superiors and instantly puts one’s job in jeopardy.
The specific factories featured in the clip remain unclear, but Apple says it is investigating the BBC’s findings and that no other company in the world goes to greater lengths to ensure safety at work.
